Evolution and family of the felidae
The cat evolved from a creature called the Dinictis, this creature roamed the earth around 50 million years ago and although there are clear signs of the cat in this animal such as the flexibility of he spine and the use claw shape this animal has a long extended face, the claws on this creature was constantly on show and the body shape was much bulkier for a smaller animal.
From the Dinictis the Psudaelurus evolved. The animal lived around 25 million years ago and showed more features which would be more commonly associated with the felines of today, such as a shortened face and round ear which would make it easier to hear. This animal diferintiated in a way which the les of the animal was much longer than any modern feline.
From the Psudaelurus the Felis Lunensis evolved. This creature was much closer to the modern feline and lived around 12 million years ago. This animal was among the several species of wild cat which would have lived
Then finally the modern cats of today evolved these are known as Felidae, these cats have evolved to become highly efficient and successful killers. These carnivores come in a range of sizes which they have adapted to survive depending on the size of the prey which lives in their environment, there are small cats which are both wild and domesticated, there are medium sized cats which are mostly wild but there are some circumstances which these can become semi domesticated and there are the larger cats which cannot be domesticated in any way.
This is a partial of the felidae family. It shows the larger of the species mainly.
